[LRflex] Re: Digital Leica "M"

The R8 was released in 1996 - 8 or 9 years before the DMR was actually on the
market. But, the R8 was built, way back then, with internal
electronics/software for adding the then unannounced DMR.
Will the digital M be a 'retrofitted' M or will it be a new body based on the M
?

  OK
as long as we are all sending out our wish lists, here is what I would like
to see:
A digital back that would fit on all the Leicas from the standard through
the R9 (Hell they got the electronics worked out how much more of a retro fit
would they have to do? New back and a place to put the batteries?) Ok we'd
have to manually change the ASA dial to match the sensor. Auto focus I've found
to be more of a pain than it's worth.
build image stablization into the sensor Aka Minolta. I bet that Leica
would sell quite a few of these backs and pay for development a lot faster.
Think of th PR on this. If they can custom build an M, they should be able to
do the same for an R

    wishful thinking only

Hmm. doesn't' the DMR or the digital M meet these qualifications? Or by
old do you mean 1 cam for the R and screw mount for the pre-M?

I am excited for the M people mainly because if Leica can pull off a nice
digital equilivant of the DMR in the M format, can a self contained,
smaller/lighter R10D be next? Bag the DMR and put it all into a package the
size and weight of an R9 (or less). Don't need no stinking autofocus
circuits to take up room. In fact, get rid of the chimping display on the
back. Us real film users can easily wait to see our results until we plug
the card into a computer. Afterall, we wait a whole lot longer to have film
  processed and printed/scanned...
