I made my statement based on the quality of construction of the circuit boards, which is above average, though nothing spectacular. They are, for instance, simple, phenolic resin boards... for the price they charge, I'd expect Fiberglas, which is more durable in environments where shock is a possibility. I have no fear that, electronically, at least, they are durable, though, like you, I've wondered about the fancy, interchangeable sockets. Mine never gave me any grief, but I worried about them. The silly part is that although well made, it is not efficiently designed. It could be made 25% smaller than I got it down to... making it comparable to the charger for the 20D, which is a mere 200cc! And, of course, if it was factory done, it could have the nifty fold away AC pins, which would make it even better. My article has been accepted for publication in the next Viewfinder, and I plan to forward a copy to Maike Harberts, the head of the R10 design team. They obviously have been buying "off the shelf" chargers, but they need to do better, if the R10 is to compete.
