David,
Shucks!
After all that great build up, I was waiting for you to say “and they are so
good I am FedExing a dozen of their donuts to every member of the list.”
I can dream … can’t I?

In Alberta, between ValleyView and DeBolt, there is Crooked Creek.
It is a small, Mennonite community, where the entire town consists of a
general store (with gas pumps), Scotty's Burger Shack (who make fabulous
burgers and give most of their profits to Ronald MacDonald House - Scotty
lost his daughter to cancer) and an ice-cream-cone stand (summer months
only). There are a few homes, hidden behind stands of trees, away from the
road, but the store, restaurant & ice cream stand are the only visible bits.
"Metropolitan" Crooked Creek, which includes many area farms, has a
population of 1121 souls.
But the General Store make the most phabulous donuts - made from scratch, in
small batches, so despite being held in an unheated display case, they are
nearly always warm from the oven. They are expensive, at over double the
price of donuts anywhere else. But, oh, so good! People drive out from
Grande Prairie (about an hour's drive, each way) just to buy their donuts.
And they sell all they can make, as fast as they can make 'em, despite the
price.
They're so well known, in the area, that when you type "Crooked Creek
Alberta" into Google (as I did got get the population), "Crooked Creek
Alberta Donuts" appears as a suggested search term!
Rose was in Alberta for the last 3 weeks, so she stopped by, bought a dozen
and froze half, which she brought home for me!
When nuked, they're not as good as when still warm, fresh from the oven, but
still better than just about any other donut, anywhere!
As a food photographer, I make a helluva fine ditch-digger.... but, here's my
attempt.

PS: If you're ever in the area, stop by Crooked Creek for a burger & some
donuts. You won't regret it!
