Nick, If I'm not mistaken, the series VII filters go in the lens hood, which has a rubber wheel to turn the circular polarizers. The actual front thread diameter is 48mm. I had this same anomaly on the first generation 35mm f/2 Summicron R that I had. Hope that helps, Art Tafil natstek@xxxxxxx
