Good Day Flexers. Recently, I have enquired about a 'nice product', the Fader ND. It's a Neutral Density filter with a variable opacity. As David Y. explained, it's two polarizing filter mounted together (to simplify). A scales let you change the 'power' between ND1 and ND400. First of all, no need to go for the max, I have found on the Digilux3 that 3/4 is largely enough. Rotating the scale to the max blackens the display, the autofocus dies out and the exposure meter goes berseck..And the resulting image ends up in the recycle... In fact it changes the tones and there are so much of chromatic aberration that it is not usable. Now, the Fader mounted on pancake 25mm Oly on the Digilux, 43mm diameter, a 15 RoRos fader , China made:http://xavierf.b.free.fr/Temp/Fader/DSCF2191_dev.jpg And, an image, 100 ISO, F2.8, at 1/1000th speed, ND to MIN:http://xavierf.b.free.fr/Temp/Fader/L1010300_dev.jpg Same, place, rotating the NB to 3/4, the speed comes down to 1/80 (a good 5 stops lower):http://xavierf.b.free.fr/Temp/Fader/L1010303_dev.jpgThe second image shows more saturation. It should be possible to incerease the rotation of the ND filter scale but it starts to show aberration. I don't think these are effect from an Infra Red action, the foliage keeps its colors in other tests I conducted. But the autofocus tends to mess up any way, it focus too close. After these images, I did a great 'siesta' in this winter garden, in the heat of a late winter. Ahhhh, that was delicious. I hope it helps out: I would say that this device should be handy, in case for instance you want to take images, wide open to keep a shallow DOF in Persepolis (Iran), in the middle of the desert. I would say that it may degrade the image quality a bit, but, it's an uncommon situation. Just for the fun, 43mm is very close to 40mm. I have been able to do a quick test of the Elpro VIb on a Fuji X20:http://xavierf.b.free.fr/Temp/Fader/L1010208_dev.jpg It does the job if the zoom of the compact X20 is set to equ. 50mm. No surprise ! Have a nice week. #----------------------------------- From : Xavier F. BILLE mail : hot_billexf@xxxxxxxxxxx Maisons Alfort - France
