Our friend, Harpdog Brown, spent 30+ years as a solo act, duo or sometimes
trio, playing the Blues in bars, trying to be heard over the din of people
talking.
Such is the lot of many people in the music business .... trying to eke out a
living, while waiting for that "big break" that so often never comes.
But, after winning the "Maple Blues" award for the best Blues Harmonica player
in Canada - for three years running, his fortunes are looking up. His "Uptown
Blues Band" has grown to 5 and he now plays venues where people actually buy
tickets to hear him. He now tours extensively in the US Pacific NorthWest, with
shorter jaunts in the rest of the country.
If this keeps up, instead of having the band crashing at our home and Rose
making the Dog his favourite Chicken Pot Pie, we'll simply reminisce, saying we
"knew him when".
Last Wednesday, Harpdog, his pianist, Dave Webb, and three new members that I
don't know, played a public concert in Kamloop's Riverside Park and it was very
well attended. Rose is off, visiting her kids, but as you'd imagine, I was
there.
Here's 'dog swaying to the rhythm of his own music....
