I remember before the advent of AF system Vivitar brought up an extension tube
or 2x multiplier appliance whih helped manual focus lenses to become auto
focus. do you think it might be a solution to Leica. a piece of small extension
that AF manual lenses.   Dr.Farzin

Dr Farzin asked:

If they don't make lenses for R
series. why do we think they make new camera body. ? Dr

Until very recently, Leica continued to promise they would soon make the
R10d...  presumably with new, AF lenses. And we all lived in
hope.

Then they discontinued all "R" series glass and announced that
the R10 would never be made.

The S2 is, I'm sure, a magnificent piece of kit.  (I hope to
fondle one, in Seattle, in October.)  But, for most of us, it is
far to expensive, at $22,000 for the body and lenses that are similarly
priced.

For us, the ideal solution would have been to gut the R8/9 and make it
into a digital only body.  They could have used ROM-like contacts,
opposite the existing ROM contacts, to communicate with new AF
lenses,  while "R" (3 cam and 3rd cam only) lenses would
continue to work in manual focus mode.

Now, like Aram, I have no expectations that this will ever
happen.

Pity.
