Eric offered: >Voila! - I've finally uploaded various bird shots taken at the Don >Edwards Wildlife Refuge here in the SF Bay Area. Equipment =3D Leica R7 >+ 3X70 Angenieux. Focus Magic helps, in a pinch, but I find it can really only cure the most minor of motion. >Film was Kodak Ultra >Color 400ASA. The results tell me that I have a lot to learn about >bird photography, and the amount of cropping I had to do suggests that >a longer lens would be extremely helpful. Up close and personal is the only way to go with birds. The beasts are so small that 20 to 30 feet is a maximum shooting distance, even with a 400 and 2x converter. >However, I can't afford that >right now so my bird photos will be more like scenes with avian >content When your budget recovers, consider a 2x converter. Although they don't like shorter, or very fast lenses, they work well from 200mm+. I took http://www.telyt.50megs.com/cab_right.htm and http://www.telyt.50megs.com/nab_rufous_wern.htm with the 80~200 Vario Elmar and 2x converter. Your Angenieux should do as well! >http://gallery.leica-users.org/For-the-Birds/R1_6_5X7a_web >http://gallery.leica-users.org/For-the-Birds/Geese_Goslings >http://gallery.leica-users.org/For-the-Birds/Avocet_001 Of these, I liked your "Canada Honkers" (as they're locally called) with their babies, the best. A nice, family grouping! :-) Here, there are no babies yet in sight, though we expect them in the next week or so. Keep working at it. You've got a good eye and a good lens. A little patience, and a little more reach, will do wonders!
