Marc, Bill:

Rio Tinto has a small connection to our little town of Logan Lake, as well.

Although our local mine (now called Highland Valley Copper) was started in the
Late 1960s & 70s, as the Lornex, Bethlehem and
Himount Copper mines.
Eventually, all three were combined into Highland Valley Copper, by a joint
venture, owned by Vancouver's Teck Corp., Cominco, and
Rio Tinto.

in 2001, Teck purchased 100% of Cominco and. later, the shares of the mine
owned by Rio Tinto. Every tour (I was with one, last
Thursday) of the mine is told of Rio-Tinto's early involvement.

However, unlike the abandoned Rio Tinto mine that Marc photographed (great
series, btw, Marc!) Teck Corp., abandons nothing and
restores all disturbed land to either grasslands or forest.

David.
