The Rodeo sport of Steer Wrestling, or Bulldoggin' as the cowboys often call
it, is a sport for the bigger cowboys, as you need bulk as well as brawn to
pull it off.
The steers used today are generally Corriente cattle or longhorns, which weigh
between 450650 pounds, and the human steer wrestlers typically weigh 180300
pounds. Average times are in the 3 to 10 second range, so to win, you've got
to be on your steer in the first two or three seconds.
There are two components...
The "Bulldogger", who leaves his horse at full gallop, grabs a steer by the
horns & attempts to wrestle it to the ground.
And is the "Hazer", who's job it is to run his horse alongside & close to the
steer, so that the steer runs straight and true - giving the bulldogger a
decent chance.
Of course, the Bulldogger has to get his horse close enough to the steer that
he can jump from one to the other without falling flat on his face.
Unfortunately, things do not always go according to plan...

If you're curious just how this played out, there is a series of 9 images,
taken in just under two seconds. (Shot @ 5fps) Both riders failed,
spectacularly!
That series is here: (Scroll down to see 'em all.)
