Is the R version of the Elmarit 135 more or less comparable -- in terms both
of design and performance -- to the M version with the magnifying goggles?

Are any of you familiar with the 135mm/f2.8 Elmarit-R? I'm considering
it--saw a used 3-cam, non-ROM, EX condition for $300. Good deal, shabby
lens? What do you all think?

There were two optical versions, the early German and later Canadian. The
later lens is a little better toward the corners at the widest apertures,
both are quite heavy and have an unfortunately long minimum focus distance.
Optical performance for the mid-1960s was exemplary.
