well that happens and I must admit I was rather curious about things at that age too and took many things apart which did not alway survive intact either. I think I would contact cameraleather.com and find some suitable material to replace some of the vulcanite panels. Damage has already been done and you will not destroy value by replacing that which is already distroyed. Unless, of course you want the reminder of what you did to that very rare camera as a Young lad. ;-) Dave ----- Original Message ----- From: David Young To: leica@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2008 9:43 AM Subject: Re: A "Beauty" of a story... It is a beautiful camera to boot and looks to be in marvelous condition inspite of the curiousity of a 10 or 12 year old. ;-) Dave Thanks for reading, Dave! Unfortunately, it is not in as good shape as it would appear. When a 10 to 12 year old peels back old vulcanite, looking for screws when he does not know whether they're there or not, he does damage. See: http://www.furnfeather.net/Personal/six/Damage.htm Rather sad, actually.... Why did I have to pick on the rare one???? Still, this sort of thing might lower a camera's value, but when the camera works, and it is one of only two surviving examples, I don't think I'm going to let it bother me. Like you, I think it's a great story, and it certainly made my week!
