This week we release recordings of sessions presented by the Wits LCT Hub,
based at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. On Wednesdays,
the Hub hosts online sessions called ‘Learning LCT’ led by its director,
Lee Rusznyak. Members of the global LCT community come together to explore
different concepts from LCT in these engaging and fun-filled sessions. The
Hub also hosts 'Write Club' every Thursday, a time dedicated to writing up
LCT within a supportive online community. To join the activities of the

1)     *Disrupting the "theory-practice divide"*

Many fields are paralysed by a 'theory-practice divide'. We discuss how
semantic gravity is used to integrate and move between different forms of
knowledge across a range of fields, including training insurance brokers,
teaching computer robotics, preparing a student for creative writing and
learning to play the piano. Presenters: Agata MacGregor, Mandy Carver,

Presenters use different concepts from LCT to analyse three entertaining
video clips. Constellations, autonomy tours, semantic waves and code
clashes shed light on expertise in cooking Mac 'n' Cheese, work-based
etiquette, and the attributes needed to be an engineer. Facilitated by
Shirra Moch, Dorian Love and Nick West.

Legitimation codes are all around us. In this video, members of the Wits
LCT Hub analyse semantic waves, code clashes, constellations and autonomy
tours in their favourite movies. This video takes a fresh look at Shrek,
E.T., The Devil wears Prada, In the Bleak Midwinter, Dead Poets Society,
The Shawshank Redemption and Ratatouille.

4)  *How LCT prepares teacher trainees for work-based learning*

'Teacher Choices in Action' is a module that has prepared 50 000 South
African trainee teachers for work-based learning. Project leader, Lee
Rusznyak, shows how concepts from LCT have been pedagogized and used to
empower students.

5) *Using LCT to see complexity in teachers' work*

To observe teachers at work, teacher trainees need to notice why teachers
do what they do. In this video, Lee Rusznyak and Dale Langsford show how
they use LCT to analyse the complexity in students’ lesson observation
reports.
