Friends and Colleagues,

January was a busy month for the Institute as we officially opened the
doors to our new office, continued our research to help guide responsible
policy and program efforts across the state, and released the policy
priority issues the Institute plans to focus on throughout this legislative
session.

Below are some highlights from the past month.

Sincerely,
The Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy

  *New Location & Open House*

The Institute began the New Year by hosting an open house at our new
office. We were thrilled to see so many supporters and old friends stop by
to support us!

If you have not already, be sure to update your address books to reflect
our new location:

*3800 N. Classen Blvd., Suite 230 Oklahoma City, OK 73118*

And don't be shy - drop by and see us!

  * OICA Policy Priorities Released*

The Institute has combined the results of online surveys, community forums,
and voting at the fall policy event with those of our partner organizations
to create a list of priority focus areas for this legislative session. It
is our goal to:

   - *Promote investments in early learning and education*,
   - *Encourage increased access to mental health and addiction resources*,
   - *Preserve resources for children in poverty*,
   - *Protect programs and interventions to strengthen families*, and
   - *Advance reforms within the juvenile justice system*.

If you would like a more detailed description of each of these priority
issues, *visit our website

.

*KIDS COUNT Early Learning Data Snapshot*

KIDS COUNT released a Data Snapshot regarding early reading proficiency in
the United States. The report showed two-thirds of Oklahoma 3rd graders are
not reading at a proficient level. This is one of the many reasons why our
policy priorities this year include promoting investments in early learning
and education. We believe investing in the education of Oklahoma's children
early in their lives will not only ensure the growth and success of our
children, but, in turn, our state will also thrive.
