For North Beaver Creek on 4/19 afternoon, Kate Scannell writes: "*A very
fruitful walk in the late afternoon today. A handsome pair of Wood ducks
on the south side of the marsh at the two mile marker on N. Beaver Creek.
They broke from the water, but then circled around my head two or three
times before settling a bit further out to the south. In the process they
startled the leucistic robin that seems to have moved into the same place
for the season. Then in one of the side channels in the same area a female
Mallard led a pack of five ducklings (so young they were hard to separate
with the bare eyes) out into a safer seeming place. Finally as I
approached my house I heard and saw a large, loose flock of (probably
white-fronted) geese heading North West. Their calls were high and thin*."
