Subject: [obol] a maybe odd whimbrel
To: obol <obol@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
This afternoon about 5:30 I observed what may have been an unusual Whimbrel
in the grass of the ball field just north of NW 8th Street in Newport (just
north of Grocery Outlet). I didn't have my binoculars with me, and was not
able to closely approach the bird, but from a distance of about 100 yards,
it looked to me to be paler than I would expect a hudsonicus whimbrel to
appear. I could be completely wrong, but on the slight possibility it might
be a Siberian Whimbrel, I thought it would be a good idea to post, just in
case it might be a bird of that form (species). The bird was rather
skittish, not willing to allow any close approach and moving around quite a
bit. Last I saw it was foraging in the grass well beyond the third base
line.
