Opps.  A kind observer pointed out the word “seal” is missing following the
word harbor.

As previously reported the Yaquina Bay herring spawn occurred on March 3rd.
The spawn was first observed in the morning along the north jetty just
downstream from the bridge.  It’s more challenging observing and
photographing the event here since you are facing the sun.  In the
afternoon a second spawn occurred along the south jetty between the finger
jetties where you can get up close and personal.  I have posted a few
photos and videos of the event here that include gulls capturing fish and
fighting over and literally tearing fish apart.  There’s also a photo of a
harbor that is caked with herring eggs as it vacuumed up spawning fish
along the shoreline.  Photos can be found here:

While I was observing the north jetty spawn with Chuck Philo I observed
juvenile bald eagles flying long the adjacent bluff.  I tried to ignore
them but their antics were too cool so I moved closer.  There were five
juvenile eagles riding the updraft along the bluff while playing “wingman”
and “knock your buddy off his perch”.  Typical kids, abundant easy to catch
food below them all they wanted to do was play games.  A few photos here:
