There is a driver compatibility issue with Vortex2 and XP, you can use
Musicmatch to get around it, but try looking for some newer/hacked
drivers?

Subject: [lanse] Windows XP and Aureal Vortex 2 Sound Cards

All,

Does anyone run Windows XP and Aureal Vortex 2 Sound Cards together?

I'm trying it at the moment, and so far I haven't had any trouble. That
is until now. The vortex 2 cards have 4 jack ports, 1 optical, and 1
joystick/midi in the back plate. The 4 Jacks being .

                        - Line in
                        - Mic in
                        - Line out 1
                        - Line out 2

Now I know what you all might say, "this is an old sound card and you
should really replace it" but up until now I haven't really had any
issues with it, not even on XP. I downloaded some reference drivers
from the net and also a Vortex 2 control panel for XP because the
drivers didn't have one in.

The problem I'm now having is 'Driving' any kind of speakers from the
card .

- Plug the headphones in and the mic and they all work fine, that's
using MIC IN and LINE OUT 1.

- Plug LINE OUT 2 into a cable running to the AUX/PLAY on my stereo,
which the manual say's you can do. Nothing.

- Plug LINE OUT 1 into the cable running to the AUX/PLAY, and you get
sound from my stereo. However after a random amount of time the sound
cuts out. The EQ on Winamp sometimes seems to freeze, but not all the
time and shutting down winamp and reloading it doesn't help. And
loading media player for playing sound is just as silent. However to
fix this I thought shut down the machine to reset everything, and the
windows XP shut down music trills through my stereo as it goes down?

Can anyone suggest why this would suddenly keep happening? After reboot
sound for winamp etc is restored until it dies again, anywhere from 3 -
10 min's. LINE OUT 2 seems dead as a door nail but that could be for
the surround speakers only. I'd just like to know why the sound keeps
cutting from every sound program, but when shut down it plays sound!

Can anyone suggest anything, aside from get a new card. Well unless
someone has a cheap one for sale. Cheers guys.
