For those of us still with Voodoo 5500 cards XP isn't an option though.

XP definitely.  I've run both for gaming and XP leaves 2K in it's wake.

Incidentally, you may have issues with 2K's interrupt handling on clone
machines - I did, and the damn thing wouldn't stay stable for more than 5
mins.  Works fine with XP.
