This will absolute lead to the NACS being the one and only charging standard in
North America. The other manufacturers have no choice but to fall in line now.
The NACS is clearly better than CCS for multiple reasons. Size and sleekness
are the most obvious, but here are two more. With NACS, the locking mechanism
that holds the charger in your car is actually part of your car, not the
charger. On a CCS plug, that locking mechanism gets worn out due to lots of use
and can fail.
Secondly, because the NACS plug works for both AC and DC charging, it will
eliminate the need for the J1772 plug. This is great! Simplicity wins!
I personally feel that this will supercharge (pun intended :-) EV adoption in
North America!

I was shocked by the news just over a week ago that Ford was moving to the
NACS port but now that GM has done it as well, has left me gobsmacked. I never
would have thought that either of these companies would ever latch on to the
Tesla network. Being a Bolt and Spark owner I am thrilled to have access in the
near future to all of the charging networks (sorry about our 50 kW max). More
options is better for us all. This should help to build out the charging
network and make it ubiquitous, which will simplify the transition to EV for
all the people nervous about switching from ICE to EV. Looking forward to
figuring out how to park at Tesla Supercharger with the charging port on the
wrong side/end of the car.
Thanks for sharing Marty!!
