Brady,
While I basically concur with you, a couple of points:
1. Fleets can downsize, but they need to learn how to do that for when they
don't need a truck to cart one person around an area. That's an education
issue, and we do discuss that with some fleets (usually munis because they
still have to that exact example some big dude who needs to carry a small box
of stuff driving around an F-150... or worse an F-350).
2. Sometimes they are needed, by individuals or fleets. You can't just say
"everyone gets a smaller vehicle".
3. Even in the truck space, they are going from 20 to 70 mpge. That's a huge
jump.
4. It is important for cities (especially) to have organizations that focus
on alternative transportation options and not just replacing vehicles with more
efficient ones. Knoxville for example has SmartTrips that focuses on taking
different, more efficient types of transportation (as well as KAT is putting
electric buses in use). Most of TN's largest cities have such organizations (as
does I'm almost sure any larger muni in the SE).

Subject: [knoxev] Re: Ford F-150 Lightning first drive: This is BIG - Electrek
Do y'all see any issues with swapping out one massive energy consuming vehicle
for another? I completely understand the EV is a net positive with zero
emissions and we need to electrify transportation, but this continues our
uniquely American problem of massive inefficient vehicles (even if this one
doesn't happen to burn gas). We should be aiming for LESS energy use, not more,
as we electrify everything. These massive and heavy EVs will require more power
on the grid, and for most of the country, that's going to be mostly fossil
fueled, at least in the near term. What I'd like to see is more smaller,
efficient EVs rather than all these big heavy ones that still require a ton of
energy to operate. After all, the cleanest electron is the one you don't have
to generate at all...
