Just as an FYI as I am sure everyone is aware, but the VFA grant application
has opened. Crescent RFPD will be applying for portable radios. I have received
quotes from MyComm in Eugene for several different Kenwoods. I wanted provide
these quotes as prices reflect the state’s procurement program if you are a
member. Has anyone purchased radios recently? If so, what did you purchase, and
are you happy with them? If you have some good and bad information I would
greatly appreciate any advice you have.

Hi Dylan,
Attached are three brochures and a quote with pricing for your grant. We've
quoted three different radios and there are two price options for both. I did
not see that your station was listed on the State of Oregon's cooperative
procurement program, but that pricing is much lower and I thought after seeing
the savings, you might want to contact Kelly Stevens at the state to become a
member and qualify. Her number is 503-378-3976. She's extremely helpful!
Just a quick run down on each radio... Please make sure you pick one that
meets the requirements of your grant.
The TK2180 is a analog only radio, 5 watts, 128 channels. If you're grant
requires a P25 option, this will not work for you. However, if you can
purchase a analog only radio, we have many in the field and they are well
reviewed by the fire community.
The TK5220 is a analog and P25 digital radio, 5 watts, 512 channels.
The NX5200 is a analog and NXDX digital radio, but it is up-gradable to P25
digital. It's 5 watts, 512 channels. This can be done at time of order or at
a later time by sending the radio back to the factory. Freight and up-grade
fees apply.
I've passed your name on to Craig and will have him call you. The last couple
of weeks have been hectic around here since the ice storm. We have contracts
with the local power utility companies, and emergency response agencies and
have been working nights and weekends to keep their systems up and talking. We
