Hi Erik,

I just picked up one of these used. But I can't get it to work with Kismac 0.21a. I've tried launching kismac, inserting my DWL-122 into a USB port, and then adding the driver. But every time I get this error:

"A driver error occured with your USB device, make sure it is properly connected. Scanning will be canceled. Errors may have be printed to console.log."

Where I look at the console log, I see entries like this:

2006-05-03 18:46:18.145 KisMAC[280] found device i didn't want (vendor = 0x5ac, product = 0x8006)
2006-05-03 18:46:18.148 KisMAC[280] found device i didn't want (vendor = 0x5ac, product = 0x8005)
2006-05-03 18:46:18.151 KisMAC[280] found device i didn't want (vendor = 0x5ac, product = 0x8005)
2006-05-03 18:46:18.153 KisMAC[280] found device i didn't want (vendor = 0x5ac, product = 0x8205)
2006-05-03 18:46:18.156 KisMAC[280] found device i didn't want (vendor = 0x5ac, product = 0x20e)
2006-05-03 18:46:18.158 KisMAC[280] found device i didn't want (vendor = 0x5ac, product = 0x8005)

The power light is green when I plug it in, but the link light never shows up. I have not installed any driver for it.

I have tried plugging it in before launching Kismac, but I get the same results. I have tried like 20 times to get it working. Actually though, it worked *once* about the 2nd time I tried to use it. I then ran a simple de-authentication attack against a network and Kismac just hung after a while. So I force quit Kismac and shut down and ever since then, my DWL-122 doesn't seem to work.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some magic incantation I am performing incorrectly? Could it have been damaged somehow?

Thanks in advance! Frank

Not sure if these are available anymore, except maybe on Ebay. They may have changed the HW version since I got mine back in 2003.

which usb device do you use?

If you are interested in packet reinjection, prism2 is your only
option. I use a prism2 pcmcia card on my Ti Powerbook and a USB
prism2 device on my 12" powerbook and both work fine with Kismac.
Any of the other cards, including the built-in cards, are fine for
wireless discovery and packet capture or analysis.
