I'd rather have one project. But I'd rather have two projects, one forking off the other, if the original goes stagnant.

Mick seems to own the server and nobody else seems to have commit access to it, as all of the commits are from him.

That's true, but he's happy to give other folks commit access. He offered it to me a while back when I was working on GPS things, but I'm not confident enough with SVN to trust myself with that, so I turned the offer down. I expect he'll be quite happy to open the project up now that there are so many people interested in contributing to the development.

The "TODO" file in the project source is also worth a read - gives a bit of a picture of ideas for further development (and some of the things Mick may or may not have done some work on).

On the subject of mapping, I've been playing with some real-time mapping from gpsd to Google Earth (now that Google Earth is on Mac), and I think that could well provide a good basis for "prettier" maps, given the amount that can be done in Google Earth with lines, shapes and a myriad of different icons. Indeed, if anyone is interested, I'd be happy to look at what it might take for KisMAC to generate KML output to link directly into Google Earth for near-real-time mapping.

Anyway, I definitely think the way to go will be to give Mick the option to open up the existing project... and I gather we'll see what he has to say on the matter soon!

Cheers,
Robin
