Yes it is a shame about the drink-driving problem but so it goes, can't stand
in the way of progress! Kendal would seem as good as anywhere and the jolly old
Riflemans not a bad option either, but I wonder if moving the location about a
bit might make things a bit fairer.... But that might just be too complicated.

It appears to work for me too, Thanks Chris – great effort.
All of this sounds to me like a lot of good sense. Count me in. I’d prefer a
Friday night for a pub meet, but I’ll be flexible. I’d like to meet in Kendal
for drink driving reasons.
Providing I’m not alone, I’ll join in any new member meets if I can fit it in.
Thanks,
Bob.

Subject: [kendalcavingclub] KCC new members, meets list etc
Ok, the new group works!
Having been away a couple of weeks and tried to follow the conversation, I
think I must have missed some of it, so apologies if this repeats comments I
haven't seen...
Miranda (I think it was her) said:
"If we did an annual skeleton meets list, allocating the first Wednesday of
every month to a designated leader willing to coordinate a meet around anyone
who contacted them but particularly anyone new, there would always be someone
to pass potential new members too.
I’ve had a think and there are at least 12 of us who could do this that I
know, and I don’t know all the new people😊 so it wouldn’t be too much for
anyone one person.
Also it got me to thinking lots of clubs meet once a month in a pub, could
this work for us, maybe every third Wednesday (doesn’t have to be a Wednesday
of course). Where potential members could come and longer serving members
could catch up.....this may well lead to further trips being organised."
Sounds like a good idea. Of course, the designated person would have to
commit to being available on their slot or else find someone to take it for
them.
Presumably then other Wednesdays, and weekends, would have to be arranged
ad-hoc by anyone who felt the urge - or, of course, could be arranged in the
monthly pub meet (I'm liking the idea more as I think about it...) - the only
possible drawback would be getting permits at short notice, but this does seem
to be easier these days.
As far as new members are concerned, there are (broadly) 3 types: a) new to
caving, non-SRT trip, b) new to SRT, needs training, c) new to the club but
competent. I'd be happy taking a) or c) out, but would not be comfortable
with b) unless there were other rope monkeys to do hand-holding.
Cheers

Some of you may have found difficulties with the Yahoo email group. The issues
with Yahoo seem to be getting worse so as previously advised I have moved us
all on to a new mail group service. To email all club members from now on
please use

As per this email. Any problems, please let me know.
I will leave the Yahoo group up for a short while as a fall-back but I will
not add to or alter it.
