Alternative Energy Investigations
A Workshop for In-Service Science Teachers
Offered by Emporia State University Departments of Physical Sciences

Attention middle and high school science teachers: Are you looking for
real-world connections for your science classes? Seeking environmental
perspectives related to science? Interested in ways to help students
develop their inquiry skills?

Energy issues are in the news almost daily and everyone uses energy
resources directly and indirectly. There are environmental
questions/concerns associated with every traditional and alternative energy
resource. Alternative energy resource technology can provide a rich variety
of inquiry-oriented activities for students.

Grant Consortium is offering PS 500 Workshop on Alternative Energy
Investigations. The course carries 2 hours of graduate credit (tuition paid
by the grant for eligible participants). Drs. DeWayne Backhus and Malonne
Davies will be the instructors. Meeting dates are November 7, November 21,
February 13, February 27 and March 13 – all session 9AM to 4PM with lunch

Financial Assistance: A limited number of stipends for in-service teachers

cover the tuition for the 2 credit hour workshop and partial cost for
overnight housing, if needed. Apply by October 31, 2009, however stipends
will be awarded on a first application/first award basis.
