Let's Use Our Voices
by Vicki Lockard

I want to take this opportunity to thank the Republicans. Yes, let it go on
record that I, Vicki Lockard, am thanking the GOP! Before you decide that I
have completely lost my mind, let me explain.
The Republicans are coming out of the closet and are publicity acknowledging
the fact that they are racist and bigoted. I think that's great. At least,
now, the wolves (no insult to wolves intended) are taking off the sheep skin
and putting it out for all the world to see.

Earth Day - A History
by Kasey Wolf Weaver

Around the world many people celebrated activities to commemorate Earth Day
on April 22, 2003. Many see this as the 33rd anniversary of a movement
originated by Senator Gaylord Nelson. While Senator Nelson is generally
promoted as the "Father of Earth Day", there is also compelling evidence
that another originated the theme and idea for Earth Day. On October 3, 1969
John McConnell submitted a proposal to the San Francisco Board of
Supervisors. The board approved the proposal and Mayor George Christopher
delivered the proclamation that started the first Earth Day:

New Reports from Researchers at Northern Arizona University Put Appeals Myth
to Rest
by Jacqueline Vaughn

With federal wildfire legislation that would severely restrict and harm the
public's ability to participate in decisions concerning America's public
lands expected to be considered by the full House Resources Committee on
April 30, new reports from researchers at Northern Arizona University shine
some much-needed light on the administrative appeals process.

Endangered Forests, Endangered Freedoms
by JR Roof

Since day one, the Bush Administration has aggressively pursued a strategy
to increase logging and resource extraction on America's national forests.
The Bush Administration has tried to make good on this goal by hand-picking
former timber industry lobbyist Mark Rey to oversee the Forest Service or
systematically dismantling landmark environmental laws to short-circuit
public participation. The Bush Administration's bottom line is clear: Do
whatever it takes to increase logging and resource extraction on our
national forests and cut the public out of the political process.

Conservation Strategy for Yellowstone's Grizzlies may be Inadequate to
Ensure Long-Term Survival
by David Ellenberger

This week the Yellowstone Ecosystem Grizzly Bear Subcommittee released the
final Conservation Strategy that outlines how the grizzly bear will be
managed if the federal government continues to push for removal of
endangered species act protections, in place since 1975, to safeguard the
species against extinction. Bear conservationists and biologists are
concerned that the strategy does little to address the escalating threats to
grizzly habitat such as diminishing food sources, isolation from other
populations, extractive industrial use and rural development trends.

An Opportunity
by Jamie Lockard

Many of you know me as the Rant Writer. But when I'm not out saving the
world from the evil ways of stupid politicians, I am a Contracts
Administrator for a Fortune 500 Company. Actually, for one of the top 5
Engineering Firms in the world and I need your help.

Enviro-Rant From an All Natural Soapbox
by Jamie Lockard

We are surrounded by idiots. I'm quite certain that comes as no surprise to
anyone, but it just becomes painfully more obvious at some times as opposed
to others. Maybe it's just me. I know, I'm babbling again. It's evident more
abundantly with the government I suppose because politicians make it so easy
to observe the extreme degree of stupidity emanating from the heads of
state. Let's get right to the heart of the matters with no further ado.
