  National Resource Centers (NRC) Program for Foreign Language &
  Area Studies or Foreign Language & International Studies Program
  & Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships Program
  (Federal Register: October 14, 2005 [CFDA# 84.015A & 84.015B])

Purpose of Program: The NRC program makes awards to institutions of
higher education or consortia of these institutions for
establishing or strengthening nationally recognized foreign
language & area or international studies centers or programs.  NRC
awards are used to support undergraduate centers or comprehensive
centers, which include undergraduate, graduate & professional
school components.  The FLAS program provides allocations of
fellowships to institutions of higher education or consortia of
these institutions to assist meritorious students undergoing
graduate training in modern foreign languages & related area or
international studies.

    Dates: Applications Available: October 14, 2005.
    Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: General deadline,
11/14/05; & extended deadline, 12/1/05.
    Eligible Applicants: (1) Institutions of higher education; &
(2) Consortia of institutions of higher education that meet the
eligibility requirements in the regulations for the NRC & FLAS
programs.
    Estimated Range of Awards: $192,000-$349,000 per year for the
NRC program & $39,000-$377,000 per year for the FLAS program.
    Estimated Average Size of Awards: $241,251 per year for the NRC
program & $234,915 per year for the FLAS program.
    Estimated Number of Awards: 120 NRC awards & 124 FLAS awards.
We estimate that the 124 FLAS awards will yield 926 academic year
fellowships & 635 summer fellowships.

assistance to establish, strengthen & operate centers that serve as
resources for improving the nation's capacity for teaching &
learning foreign languages effectively.
    Applications Available: October 17, 2005.
    Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: General deadline,
11/16/05; & extended deadline, 12/1/05.
    Eligible Applicants: Institutions of higher education (IHEs) &
combinations of IHEs.
    Estimated Range of Awards: $300,000-$400,000.
    Estimated Average Size of Awards: $351,786.
    Estimated Number of Awards: 14.

11/16/05; & extended deadline, 12/1/05.
    Eligible Applicants: Public & private agencies, organizations,
institutions, & individuals.
    Estimated Range of Awards: $50,000-$200,000 per year.
    Estimated Average Size of Awards: $122,917.
    Estimated Number of Awards: 22.
