This week on NASAexplores we're featuring articles from NASA's Exploration
Systems and Science Mission Directorates. You will be amazed at who has
taken up gardening in "Ag Ants?", and you will also find an excellent
opportunity for you and your students to look at the Earth differently in
"Your View From Above." Below are abstracts of the articles, as well as
brief descriptions of the accompanying lessons for each grade level.

To access the articles and lessons, please visit the NASAexplores web site.

Be sure to review the announcements on NASAexplores this week, as we've
posted information about the International Education Week!

Topic 1: Ag Ants?

NASA's putting robots to work on the farm. These robots will help the
farmers grow better crops. And when they show that these robots are
reliable, they just might be sent to work on Mars!

K-4
Lesson 1 - What Is A Robot? To design a robot based on animal characteristics.

Lesson 2 - All About Ants: To learn about ants and their behaviors.

5-8
Lesson 1 - Observing Ant Behavior: To set up different food baits near an
ant hill to see what type of food the ants prefer, and to observe the ants'
behavior.

Lesson 2 - Learning All About Ants: To learn about a specific type of ant
through research on the Internet, and to make a presentation to teach the
class about that type of ant.

9-12
Lesson 1 - Your Very Own Ag Ant: To design and construct an Ag Ant, NASA's
robotic farmer.

Lesson 2 - What Can Your Robot Do: To compare and contrast various NASA
robots.

Topic 2: Your View From Above

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to look down on the Earth from
orbit? Some students have been able to take pictures of the planet from
the International Space Station thanks to the ISS EarthKAM program.

K-4
Lesson 1 - EarthKAM Landforms: To use EarthKAM images to learn about land
forms.

Lesson 2 - Take A Second Look: To view objects from a unique perspective.

5-8
Lesson 1 - Pinpointing With Latitude And Longitude: To better understand
latitude and longitude, and to pinpoint locations using latitude and longitude.

Lesson 2 - EarthKAM Bingo: To introduce students to different views of
Earth, and to interpret EarthKAM images during a game of BINGO.

9-12
Lesson 1 - Change In Perspective: To view various objects from different
perspectives.

Lesson 2 - The World In Your Hand: To construct a globe the size of a
