Topic 1: Online And Airborne

A new communications system will help make sure needed information is shared
between aircraft and ground facilities through a high-speed digital network.

K-4
Lesson 1 - How Far Is It?  To predict and find the distance between two
destinations in the United States.

Lesson 2 - Work Together, Work Faster:  To observe the advantages of working
together, and to model distributed computing by alphabetizing letters.

5-8
Lesson 1 - Distributed Calculations:  To observe the advantages of working
together, and to model distributed computing by multiplying numbers.

Lesson 2 - Air Traffic Logic:  To solve a logic puzzle using reasoning
skills and a grid.

9-12
Lesson 1 - Where's My Plane?  To interpret and construct graphs on flight
delays by major airlines and how they are handled by large airports.

Lesson 2 - What's The Shortest Path?  To use Dijkstra's Algorithm to find
the shortest path through a computer network.

Topic 2: My How You've Grown!

Astronauts grow taller while in space, because gravity is not pulling them
down in the same way it does on Earth. Why? How? Does this mean astronauts
going to Mars will end up 8 feet tall?

Lesson 1 - Grow In Your Sleep?  To take height measurements at different
times of the day to see if gravity compresses the spine during they day.

Lesson 2 - Here We Grow!  To calculate how much one could "grow" in the
microgravity of space.

5-8
Lesson 1 - Way To Grow!  To solve math problems involving the three-percent
height increase of astronauts in microgravity.

Lesson 2 - The Spine In Space:  To simulate the effect of microgravity on
the spine.

9-12
Lesson 1 - Hooke, Spring, And Sinker:  To measure the characteristics of a
spring using Hooke's Law.

Lesson 2 - Am I Growing Or Stretching?  To examine the change in height of
astronauts due to the effect of microgravity.
