TeachersFirst Update ? December 30, 2002
We know this letter will find most of you still on vacation, but for those who
return to school at the end of the week, here are some new ideas.
Martin Luther King
Many schools will have observances of the life of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther
King later this month. To help those along, we?ve created a new lesson unit
about Dr. King for primary level teachers. It includes science, language arts,
and math lessons ? all based around the themes of equality and non-violence
that Dr. King advocated. Printable PDF files make these lessons easy to use
with little advance preparation. You can find our Martin Luther King unit at:
Black History Month
Black history month is still a few weeks off, but there are many themes on this
subject that tie directly to the life of Martin Luther King. So, here?s the
link to our resource collection on black history and the African American
Tensions with North Korea
North Korea?s nuclear policy has escalated tensions on that divided peninsula.
Since this reclusive regime has been ?off the radar? in many schools, our Hot
Topics contains a set of listings that social studies and current events
teachers may find useful in explaining and understanding this conflict. The Hot
Topics are at: http://www.teachersfirst.com/hot.htm
Featured Sites
This week?s featured sites include a really neat site on robots and robotics,
(Science teachers, take note!), recordings from the outbreak of World War II,
and an extensive ?After 9/11? site for high school students. As always, the
features are at: http://www.teachersfirst.com/feature.htm
Have a wonderful New Year?s Day. We?ll be back with a full Update next week.
(?and remember that you make a difference ? even when you?re on vacation!)
