THEME OF THE WEEK: ROCKS & MINERALS
************************************************************

** ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK **
Rock On

Review with the students what they know about the three types of
rock--sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Internet research should be
encouraged in order to verify facts about the three different types of rocks.

Ask the students to write a simple children's story to explain to younger
students how sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic rocks are formed. These
non-fiction stories may be drafted individually or as a group project.
Detailed, labeled, and colorful illustrations should be encouraged.

Final copies of the stories should be shared with younger students, pairing the
authors reading with an individual student or small group of students.
