Often the phrase "truth is stranger than fiction" lives up to the hype, with fascinating and intriguing true stories serving as the baseline story. In order to prepare for discussion and viewing of the new video or DVD, Historical Heroes, students should research the following topics: American astronauts, 19th-century gangs in New York City, convicts who became Australia's first settlers, and post-Revolutionary France. All of these timeframes and historic topics should be analyzed for the characteristics that were important to help the "heroes" that emerged in each situation to succeed.
