Welcome to this edition of DINOSAURNEWS - the international Dinosaur
Webzine with bite!

This Week's Headlines: (For the FULL STORY visit the NEWS section of the
webzine at this address: http://www.dinosaurnews.org )

** Ancient footprints found in Drakensberg
Normally, fossilised footprints are visible as depressions in a rock,
whereas these protrude outwards from the rock surface

** How do paleontologists determine the s*x of a fossilized creature?
For the paleontologist trying to understand the ecology and biology of an
ancient time and place, it is vital to know whether variations in skeletal
remains reflect the presence of males and females of the same species or
individuals from closely related species

** Chicken genes help crack the dinosaur code
The results of a four-year, =A310m-plus project to crack the genetic code of
chickens will be released this week, along with a full analysis of their
evolution and ancestry

** Big birds on the Green River? The debate continues
He examined the track 12 years ago and found several things fishy about it,
including what he thought were chisel marks and scratches, and little
indication that the sediments in the siltstone were compressed by the weight
of a giant bird

** Feature Site: Follow A Fossil
 >From the Denver Museum of Nature and Science

** Petrified Forest expansion may yield treasures
As paleontologist Bill Parker slowly moves his fingers across the skull of a
crocodile-looking phytosaur, his voice quickens while he discusses future
dinosaur discoveries in an expanded Petrified Forest National Park

** One foot in North Yorkshire's Jurassic past
Geology curator Roger Osborne said it was difficult to identify the exact
species of dinosaur which made the three-toed print, but it was likely to
have been a sauropod, about the size of an African elephant, which walked on
four legs and was a plant-eater

** Paleobotanist reads fossil leaves to determine ancient geology
By "reading" tiny bits of fossilized leaves from ancient mountain slopes -
examining tiny perforations in their surface under a microscope - the Field
Museum scientist sees blueprints of how the mountain was built and when it
went up.
