Vanilla xine won't play encrypted DVDs.  You need to get libdvdcss and
libdvdread, which is pretty easy - libdvdread is in a lot of
repositories and (at least in ubuntu) has a script that'll fetch,
build, and install libdvdcss.


The beauty of xine is that if you install all the normal windows,
mpeg, quicktime codecs, it'll play just about anything, and I think
there's still a mozilla xine plugin for viewing movies 'on the web'
(but it didn't always work.)
