Not just linux related but in case you know anyone who might be interested.

What: Using GIMP to get your digital image ready for publication
When: Thu., Sep. 24, 6:30pm
Where: Downtown library, large conference room

This lesson will concentrate on getting familiar with GIMP: its basic
features and tools and their practical application. We'll cover things
like:

    *

choosing the correct file type and resolution

    *

      cropping and resizing

    *

      improving color, brightness and contrast

    *

      rotating, perspective, shear

    *

      sharpen & blur

    *

      color correction, red-eye removal

The plan to offer a lesson on Scribus, the open source desktop
publishing program, has not changed. However probably half the work of
producing a newsletter, flyer, program, or similar with images is
preparing those images for publication. So there are now 2 lessons -
GIMP first, to prepare images, and Scribus second, to combine images and
other content and make it pretty.

If there is enough interest in the advanced features of GIMP, we could
do a third session. Topics could include: transparencies and the alpha
channel, layers and layer modes, filters and effects, scripts and
plugins or whatever is of interest. Feedback appreciated.
