Hi,

I finally got my computer running again (yes, it was a bad fan on the
CPU; it spun, but too slowly), and I decided to install Knoppix instead
of the redhat 7.x which was on there. That's when the troubles began.

I can get wvdial to dial gci, but once I'm connected, I can't seem to
get anywhere. Can't resolve urls, can't ping anything I know the
address for (slashdot is 65.35.250.150, I think). Somehow, it wants to
use eth0 instead of ppp0. When I do ``ifconfig eth0 up'', it tries to
resolve urls, and times out. When I do ``ifconfig eth0 down'', it tells
me it can't reach the network. All the while, I'm dialed into GCI and
ppp0 is ``up'', according to ifconfig.

Does anyone have a clue about how I tell the box to ignore the ethernet
card when pppd is active?

Thanks,
Nels
