[juneau-lug] Web page - logo & icon needed

I'm resubmitting the "new logo" proposal. This idea has been floated
before, but there hasn't been much of a response.

The logo on our website (http://www.juneau-lug.org) is a "temporary"
animated gif that I put together last year just to put SOMETHING on our
page. The idea was that we would replace it with something better.

I'd like to get it replaced this summer/fall if possible. The new logo
should be free software friendly (i.e. not a .gif - .png is probably
best), and reflect Southeast Alaska in the design if possible. Ideally,
the logo would have a 32x32 or 16x16 counterpart that could be used as a
favicon.ico.

Why favicon.ico? This file is used by Internet Explorer to save custom
icons for web pages that are added to the favorites list. The icon also
replaces the standard IE "blue e" icon when you subsequently visit that
site. That's not the target market I'm after though - favicon.ico is also
used by Konqueror when you're browsing a site. If you have Konqueror
available, take a peek at http://zuelow.net to see a favicon.ico in
action. I have heard that Mozilla also uses the favicon.ico file, but I
haven't tried it - my hardware is too old to run Mozilla smoothly (at
least the 0.8x versions).

So if you're so inclined, come up with some draft ideas. Send them to me
and I'll put them up on the web page. Then we can all vote on our favorite
design (assuming we get more than one).

Cheers,

James
