A VMX file is the file that contains all the info about what kind of

configuration, Mac address, sound card.  The VMware Player is supposed 
to be a tool you use with pre-exisitng VMs created on another machine 
with a paid for product.  But there are tools out there for creating VMs

With reports of VMware GSX being offered up for free, I wonder if they 
will start giving away their Workstation version too?  Even with the 
price on the GSX version dropping to $0, I still like the ESX version 
and would rather stick that up than a GSX server.
