I think i'll use this time to personaly put in a vote for vi as the editor
of choice. Not only does it have a two simple letters for the filename,
but it is on everything, heck I would imagine it's even on 320k floppy
resuce disks. Seriously though, if you like vi check out vim, it uses
almost all the same keybindings as vi and has an excellent tutor. Not
only that but with at the end of the tutor they give you a .vimrc file (or
a link to one anyway) that will turn on syntax highlighting by default.
This along with auto indenting makes it a excellent editor for
programming in practically any language.

Vim's homepage: http://vim.sf.net or http://vim.sourceforge.net
I expect there are packages for most fashionable and unfashionable
distribs and flavors out there.

I've toyed with the idea of doing a presentation on vi and vim but haven't
really learned enough to feel confident in presenting without the "how do
you do this paticular thing" type of questions that always seem to stall
the whole presentation while I look it up and sctrach my head. Most of my
knowledge about linux/unix/bsd/whatever comes from learning what I need to
do a paticular task. So as a result when i've done those prsentations
someone has asked, yeah but how do I do this? Quite embarissing when you
haven't had to do that before :)
