I've tried SuSe, Caldera, Libranet, Stormix, Mandrake, Redhat, Corel, and
always end up coming back to either Mandrake or Redhat. No other distro's
offer the level of hardware support that these two do without compiling
driver code (although I haven't tried Slack yet, but do have a copy). I test
this theory with the Yamaha YMF-724 (DSX-G) sound card that I have in one of
my machines (not very scientific, I know), it's a pretty common sound card.
Mandrake and RedHat are the only ones that load it on boot. Mandrake would
be a good newbie distro, it's very complete and has KDE 2.2, GNOME 1.4, and
Kernel 2.4. For me USB support is another option I won't do without, both
have this also. If anyone in the group would like to try the
distro's I've mentioned I'd be glad to burn you a copy.

Has anyone had any luck viewing Quicktime video, such as movie trailers?

Subject: [juneau-lug] Version of Linux

Do the members of this user group have a preferred version of Linux?

I've played a little with Caldera Open Linux 2.3 as well as RedHat 5.2 and
RedHat 6.1. Are any of these recommended versions to work with or would it
be wiser to get a newer version if I'm pretty much starting from scratch?
