So how are we going to get this install fest going? Are people still
interested in it? I think it would be a great start for a UAS club and
could sort-a be the marriage between the two of them :)

Here are the things that I see needing to be done.

-we need to actually form the UAS club. As far as i can tell the steps we
need to follow would be....

1.) Get a Club sign up sheet from Sarah at Student Activities and Housing.

2.) figure out who would be best for the officers and president. If any
of you know people interested now would be a great time to talk to them.

3.) Form the thing.

-Once a club is formed the next step would be to reserve a room. I humbly
suggest room 113 in Hendrickson. It seemed to have good space and network
support. it also had a large screen for the projector that would be great
for watching the install happen on a machine or giving presentations.
The problem that I noticed on Saturday was power. They (UASGC) ended up
running several extension cords into the room to feed power strips. this
was done after they had tripped a breaker or two.

-we need to decide on a date of the install fest. It was suggested before
that a Saturday afternoon would be a good day.

-Flyers and advertisement needs to happen. I volunteer for building the
flyers and getting them circulated around town. i do need suggestions for
what to include on the flyer. ideas I've had
-Free Open-office installations to demonstrate what free software
is about
-Free initial install help and configuration. I think we should
put the Red-Hat, Debian, Mandrake, and Suse logos on the flyer.

-Free small hard-drives for Linux.....if we can find some :)

-Cabling and power hardware needs to be found. From what I saw at the
gaming club even if there is a modest (5-6 people) turnout power will
quickly become a problem no matter what room we are in. I'm not an
Electrical installers but i would guess that each room has two possibly
three breakers feeding 25 amp circuits. typical PC power supply draws 5-6
amps plus monitors...... we will need a modest switch or two and some
spare patch cables. A could cheap PCI and or ISA Ethernet cards would be
helpful as well. In sort the junk boxes that I'm sure everyone has access
to would be good. Linux has a tendency to bring out boarder-line hardware
so if a person happened to have a spare card to sell/trade/give to a
inspiring young Linux convert it would be really helpful.

What do you think? Would a planning meeting be helpful?

Justin
