Hi, James,

I just got up and turned on the box for no other reason than to ask you
if I could get a copy of stuffit. And maybe a copy of Netscape. And
maybe any useful Linux stuff you had lying around. Yes, please, I would
very much like a CD.

I've found out that I need to run something called bootvar or so to fix
things like the default display device. I've also learned that this
particular model may not boot if I try to use the console as the default
display. So, that will be interesting.

I found the pinouts for the Apple RS422 and for the RS232 on the other
end. Apple was always trying to do something a little different. As I
recall, it is possible to make a cable which lets the two talk to each
other. RS422 used differential signaling, as I recall, and that was the
main extension beyond RS232. I supose that Apple properly implemented
RS422? If so, it'll use high enough voltages to damage the crappy old
out-of-spec serial ports we used to find on a lot of cheap PC's.
Hopefully, my fancy new boxes have proper serial port chips, rather
than using ttl to drive the serial port directly. Maybe I should check
before I hook it up.

Anyway, James, let me know when I can pick up that CD.

Thanks!
Nels
