[juneau-lug] State Surplus

Dropped by state surplus today and they're still pretty much cleaned out.

I asked about a recurring rumour that I've heard, about Surplus not accepting
anything slower than a 350MHz machine for sale. Actually, they don't want any
486's or below as they just sit. But anything else is fair game.

The big fire sale a few weeks back was to make room for a big surplus shipment
that for one reason or another hasn't actually made it to surplus. So it would
still make sense to drop by early in the morning just in case it does arrive.

Other things I found was a stack of IDE and SCSI CD-ROM readers. Most of them
were 1997-1998 vintage, but apparently they work. I picked up a couple of each
and made sure to leave a couple of each on the shelves in case anyone is
looking for one. These are going for $5, but the same SCSI model is selling at
places like www.teamexcess.com for $30 (plus the UPS tax). Nice to have spares
around the house. There was a Gateway Solo P90 laptop, bundled together with a
keyboard, mouse, and monitor for $125. :)

The printers are pretty much cleaned out. A couple LaserJet III left, and
that's about it. Essentially NO computers at all. I saw a couple of machines,
P90/P75 type, plus that Mac Quadra 950 that has been there forever and the Sun
storage array that Toby mentioned last week. Nothing much unless you're
setting up a firewall or light duty print server.

So if you didn't make it today, you didn't miss much. I'm curious about the
"big shipment" that hasn't arrived yet.

Cheers,

James
