http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/ this will get you going with the plugins
thing. And in redhat if you type sndconfig as root you should be able
to setup the sound cards. It helps too know the chipset of the sound
cards. But a lot of trial and error will get you trough. Another
helpful utility of redhat if you type setup as root in a console or
from the command line it will help you setup many things
hope this helps

Subject: [juneau-lug] Setting up Linux boxes for sale to newbies

I'm having some success convincing family and friends that they don't
need new hardware and PayThroughTheNose software to fully experience the
web, run great office apps, etc. I've fixed up some nice P-2 333 boxes
from surplus and I'm loading RH 8.0 on them. The problem is, I doubt my
folks can deal with the learning curve unless the software is heavily
customized, and I'm too new to Linux to do a lot of even the simplest
things.

For example, how do I go about installing a flash plugin and Java VM for
Mozilla?? I've read that RH8 installs them both by default, but i can't
find/configure them. I've also found them on the web and downloaded
them, but can't get them to install. If it can't be done with the
package manager, any pointers for the command line??

Any suggestions on sound card detection/configuration?? Rather than give
specifics on the box giving me trouble, i'll say every box has given me
trouble with the sound card thus far.

Also, is there a windows clone distro out there? That might be the
easiest way to help these folks in the migration.

I'm ok working through the learning curve and i'll stick with it however
long it takes, but I don't think that's true for the masses. I want to
make it as easy as possible for the ppl I send these boxes to. With
that in mind, is there anything else I should be aware of as I set them
up?

Thanks to all in advance,
Stephen
