Hmm.  All things being equal, home brews should work better in Linux due to not 
needed decss to play.

You're not using DVD+R media are you?

For DVD Video, I find that DVD-R is better for standalone players and some 
computer players.

You can play the __BURNT__ DVD with Xine, or you can preview the files on disk 
with Xine before burning?
