I think that KMail and Outlook share code.

I suspect the word wrapping.

The above lines are not wrapped, and I will endeavor to type enough onto this 
line to wrap it and see if I get the =20.

Note that if I leave word wrapping turned off, it still gets wrapped in the 
recipient's reader.  It just gets really hard to type on my end because I 
have to scroll to the end of the line.

Hmm.
