They are given a db rating, at least a number of the drives are. If you look at a lot of drive reviews you will also see db ratings there too. Machine noise seems to be a constant battle. The place to start is the fan. Since you've already cleaned / replaced yours, its got to be the hd. Did you pull the power to the hd to prove it?
