[juneau-lug] OpenOffice.org 641d

I downloaded the Intel Linux & Windows binaries, Solaris Sparc binaries and
source for OpenOffice.org 641d (www.openoffice.org). I'll burn a CD for
anyone who wants to update from 641c or who hasn't tried OpenOffice.org out
yet.

I use OpenOffice.org on Windows & Linux, and have good results. The only MS
Office 97/2000 files I've had trouble with are complex MS Word online forms
(OpenOffice doesn't handle the text fields well - I suspect because there's
a lot of VBA going on in the background for the dynamically sized fields and
calculated fields). Any Word/Excel/PowerPoint doc that doesn't use VBA
usually goes back and forth perfectly, although I rarely save in MS Office
format. OpenOffice.org files are essentially zipped XML files - you can
change the extension to zip, unzip them and look at the XML if you want to.
Anyway, they are much smaller than MS Office formatted files.

And yes, it really is called OpenOffice.org - someone else has the trademark
on "OpenOffice."

Let me know if you want a CD.

Cheers,

James
