OK, we have some new O'Reilly books. I'd like someone to read them & do a
short review for the library page if anyone has the time.

Here's a list:

Linux Server Hacks, 100 Industrial-Strength Tips & Tools (ISBN
0-596-00461-3). This one is full of little tips to help manage a Linux
server, including pointing out tools that you might not know exist. I'll do
a review of this one when I get back later this month unless someone wants
to do it right away. I wish I had this book when I was first getting
started setting up Linux servers.

Understanding the Linux Kernel, 2nd Edition (ISBN 0-596-00213-0). 2nd
edition is updated to cover the 2.4 kernel. This is one that I will
probably end up buying for myself eventually. Looks like it is useful for
programming and people who get their hands dirty with kernel internals.
Myron, Tony - interested?

Running Linux, 4th Edition (ISBN 0-596-00272-6). Excellent for newbies who
want a good background, and not-so-newbies who want to build up their
knowledge foundation. Doesn't go into technical details about the kernel,
etc. but it does tell you how to set up a basic Apache server, explains the
Postfix mail server as well as Sendmail, explains how to set up modems and
PPP, etc.

Building Secure Servers with Linux (ISBN 0-596-00217-3). This one builds on
server setup, again with Apache, Sendmail, Postfix, BIND, etc. etc. If you
are running servers at home or work this might be useful. I'll end up
buying it, but you can review the LUG copy.

Remember, all of these books are in the LUG library, and available. I will
be out of town for the March meeting, but if you get ahold of me over the
weekend you can pick up one of the new books.

If you're in town and generally available, you can take over the library.
From the mailing list it doesn't look like a meeting coordinator was picked
for the Februrary meeting, so I think that position is still available as
well.

Cheers,

James
